Everything that’s related to primary care! Comprehensive care management, in-person/virtual visits, urgent care, chronic disease management, preventive care. Some patients will choose to have evaluation and management for hormonal issues (low testosterone and perimenopausal treatment), weight management, and nutrition/peptide recommendations. Joint injections, and some skin procedures (sutures for lacerations, skin biopsies, etc.) will have an additional charge. We offer lab draws in our office. We work with many different lab companies and will make sure that the lab either takes your insurance, or has the cheapest rates for testing.

Yes, it is highly recommended that patients maintain a high-deductible plan or health-sharing plan for specialists, hospitalization, or emergencies.

While you pay a membership, you save on copayments and deductibles, and you receive steep discounts on radiology and lab fees. We may not be able to handle every emergency at every hour, but you’ll be much less likely to visit a walk-in clinic or need to go to the Emergency Room. More importantly, because of the comprehensive care you receive from our Direct Primary Care practice, most patients will find that they can cut way back on their insurance premiums. Most Direct Primary Care patients choose to find a high-deductible, low-premium insurance plan so they're covered in the case of a major health issue. But leave the rest of your health care to us. We can care for more than 90 percent of your healthcare needs. And we can help to arrange consultation with specialists, when needed!

They may not be tax-deductible in all scenarios, but, as of 2026, you can use Health Savings Accounts to pay for the cost of your Direct Primary Care membership.

Yes, patients with Medicare can join a Direct Primary Care practice. The patient (and physician) will sign a waiver declaring that neither party will bill Medicare for services provided by the Direct Primary Care practice.     
 

We forego insurance reimbursements in order to spend the time needed to provide a superior care experience. We are also free from the typical contractual agreements that would prevent us from offering cash pay prices on laboratory tests, imaging, and medications to our patients. 

Yes, you may use your insurance for lab tests or scans performed outside the office, though many patients opt for the cash-pay prices offered by Direct Primary Care partners, which are often less expensive.

Even for healthy individuals, Direct Primary Care offers personalized wellness, urgent, same-day access, and less expensive diagnostic testing. Patients will also find a more proactive care model, where your doctor will actually send you health-related information and message you to check on your health!

That is definitely our goal! However, currently, we are only seeing patients 8 years and older.

Direct Primary Care is similar in access to concierge medicine but is much more affordable. Direct Primary Care provides the same VIP level access, treatments, follow-up, and innovative care but at reasonable pricing.

In the age of technology, many conditions can be diagnosed and treated via a simple conversation by phone, email, or video chat. Without the access you would have to your Direct Primary Care doctor, you will likely have to pay for an urgent care visit when you're away from home. If appropriate, your doctor will locate the nearest pharmacy and order medication most suited for your circumstance. If you need to go to the hospital or seek other medical attention while away from home, we can advise you on that as well.

Of course! Physician access is one of the greatest benefits of the Direct Primary Care model. Because illness and injury do not respect regular office hours, you may call, text, or email your physician whenever you need. Dr. Berland does ask that this service be used appropriately. Refills will be managed within 24 hours, as will authorizations and referrals. After-hours access is meant to be for urgent health concerns only.
